Masterplan Havenkade Nijmegen
In cooperation with Thijs Asselbergs, we designed the urban plan of the Havenkade in Nijmegen. In close cooperation with Rotterdam offices Jury! and Felixx Landscape Architects and Planners we develop the architectural proposals for this large housing development on Nijmegen’s harbourfront.
Project architect Fallon Walton: “One of the great achievements of Havenkade Nijmegen is the cohesive nature of its architecture. The recognizable ensemble is achieved through a strong plinth and defined entrances, complemented by subtle differentiation of brick detailing within the mass. Havenkade is an urban anchor through which its rhythmic façade acts as a wrapper connecting the former industrial harbour to Nijmegen’s old centre.”
Havenkade is part of a larger revitalization of the Waalfront, in the existing Dijkkwartier. Havenkade is composed of more than 325 dwellings of various sizes and typologies, with integrated facilities for cars and bicycles. The characterizing feature is the 22-storey tower on the harbour dike. The project is commissioned by BPD and housing corporations Talis and Portaal, and will be carried out by Klokgroep in collaboration with Trebbe. Construction will start in 2020.
