De Scheepmaker - 55 apartments
Where the river Spaarne connects the Haarlem sity center to the former industrial landscape a new district is built: het Scheepmakerskwartier. Its name and designcharateristics refer to the site's ship construction history. The design gives place to 55 houses of different types, varying from maisonettes to (loft)apartments of different sizes. The three layer parking facility is placed in the heart of the building. Houses and apartments will be for sale starting September 2017. See www.descheepmaker.nl
The façade design refers to the iconic industrial buildings along the river Spaarne. The building volume is divided into different heights related to adjacent buildings and the urban profiles along the river and railroad. The cuts in the volume mark the entrance. A different type of façade in the heart of the building makes the rigid brick contours stand out.
A wide range of housing types and scales is designed, varying from 3-layer houses along the street to unique loft apartments on the higher levels. A 3 layer parking garage is hidden inside the building.
The building is made of 5 and 8 layer volumes placed on a 3 layer common plinth. In the heat of the building are terraced apartments. The roofs are used for residential terraces, solar panels and vegetation as water buffer.
A rigid masonry grid with huge windows is designed on the façade facing the water. At the lower parts of the building, the façades are more closed reflecting the relation to adjacent buildings.
